The Future of Learning: Preparing for Change‘ report states “personalisation, collaboration and informalisation (informal learning) will be at the core of learning in the future” and “A mix of different technologies will support personalisation, but allowing for a diversity of learning activities, tool and materials”.
During Q4 2017 and taking the above into consideration, the project partners embarked on a survey of VET professionals, to establish the need for an intervention that increases the rates of technological adoption and digital pedagogy across partner countries. The survey was based on frameworks including, but not limited to, the DigiComp framework 2.0 and Hattie’s Effect Sizes.
In regard to the continuous professional development of VET teachers, trainers and mentors, our survey found that teacher efficacy (69%) will affect learner performance and sharing (45%), collaborating (45%), creating (47%) and protecting privacy and data (47%) are key digital competencies in which VET practitioners should seek to develop. The most common methods of CPD included learning by doing (89%), lecturing and teaching (86%) and workshops (83%). However, time pressures (82%), cost (52%) and duration (53%) are the most common barriers to participation in staff CPD. Therefore, there is a clear need to change the approach to CPD for staff in this area and offer a low cost, flexible solution for CPD programmes to develop key staff competencies.
In strengthening key competences in VET, the outputs of this project will provide an open and collaborative environment for VET delivery staff across the EU to access resources that will help increase innovation across the VET sector, and also the quality and relevance of learning and teaching in line with the most up to date digital technologies. By introducing self-assessment into this process, VET staff can assess their own competencies in using digital technologies and where applicable upskill through a systematic process, using online learning materials and resources. Open access to the VET-TEDD.eu platform will support the CPD of VET delivery staff at all levels across the EU and shape future learning and teaching strategies by incorporating new, innovative practices in teaching vocational education.
The project also supports a range of regional/national and EU policies, frameworks and agendas.
UK – The Digital Skills Crisis report 16/17 by the UK Govt states that “As digital skills increasingly become the foundation of a competitive economy, businesses need to invest in digital training to increase productivity and stimulate innovation. We must equip the next generation not just with the skills that we know industry needs today but also with the skills they will need for a future not yet imagined.
Slovenia – The Ministry for Education, Science and Sport has launched Digital Slovenia 2020 – a strategy that aims to increase the intensive and innovative use of information and communication technology and the Internet in all segments of society.
Czech Republic – The initiative Industry 4.0 and the strategy of the Educational Policy of Czech Republic till 2020, state that there is insufficient number of experts within technical education and with the fast changes in the structure and content of jobs, there is an immediate need for strengthening the continuing education and methodical support for teachers and directors”.
Netherlands – The Netherlands aims at being a forerunner in the field of innovative technology and development. The task of ROC A12 and Noorderpoort, as providers of vocational education, are preparing and training students in a realistic and modern context. To accomplish this, we collaborate closely with local and regional companies and look at how digitisation of learning can enhance student experience.

The objectives of the VET-TEDD project are to:
Increase the use of digital technologies in VET delivery within the partner institutions by 25% by February 2021.
Increase the knowledge & skills of 500 VET delivery staff on the use of digital technologies in their curriculum by February 2021.
Increase the accessibility of digital resources for VET delivery staff across the EU by creating an online platform (VET-TEDD.eu) to be accessed by 50 institutions from across the EU.
